Currency
The Chinese currency is called Renminbi or RMB. Many hotels and stores accept major credit cards. Electricity
The electricity used in China is 220 volt AC. Many hotel wash rooms have transformer plugs for electric shavers and hair dryers.
Tipping
It is now a practice for visitors to tip the tour guide and driver, hotel bellboy. But it's not customary to tip taxi drivers or local restaurants servers as the bill usually includes a service charge.
Telephone
In towns and cities, IDD (International Direct Dial) service is provided at most hotels and post offices. Phone cards are usually available in hotels or at most newsstands in major cities.
Office Hours
In China, office hours are usually from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Major shopping malls are open from 8: 30 A.M. or 9:00 A.M. and close at 9:00 P.M, and some even are open until 10:00 P.M.
